The STi has a tighter, firmer setup that handles well but is so safe and forgiving that you feel far more daring flinging it through whatever corners you feel inclined to fling it. The interior likewise hints at this car's rally-racing roots. There is no radio, for instance, the idea being to save weight. Ditto the lack of floormats and the super-thin glass in the rear window.

After spending several hours behind the wheel of the new STi, we can tell you that if Subaru is ever going to win another championship based on a road car, this will be the vehicle that does it.
This latest version of Subaru's venerable Impreza WRX STI features a striking exterior that understates this cars very real performance credentials. With it's flared fenders and wider stance, the five-door, all-wheel drive STI has a more aggressive look than the other, more sedate, Impreza's. Featuring a turbocharged 2.5-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission, this little rocket produces a whopping 305-hp. To plant all that power, Subaru utilizes a Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) system, which claims to be the world's only hybrid mechanical/electronic limited-slip differential. Standard front seat mount, and front and rear curtain airbags offer occupant protection. Standard anti-lock brakes with traction-control and stability-control help reign the chassis in while driving at the limit of this cars potential. The STI carries over into 2010 with minimal changes.
